Presenting Our ‘Year in Review’ The end of the year is typically a time for reflection . . . about a great many things, both personal and professional. In keeping with that theme, we’d like to present our “Year in Review” issue. Our goal with this newsletter is to provide timely and insightful information regarding the best ways in which to recruit, reward, and retain your employees. The 11 articles below touch upon each of these areas, and we’ve brought them together in one issue so that you can have easy access to them. The title of each article is also a link to the archived version of that article, which is located on our firm’s website. Below the title is a short synopsis describing what the article entails. We hope that 2008 has been a great year for you and your company, and we thank you for your loyal readership of our publication. With the New Year rapidly approaching, we’d like to know what you want to read about in 2009. If you have any ideas or suggestions for future topics, be sure to contact us at [email address here]. We look forward to hearing from you. Happy holidays!
You Are the Key to Retaining Your Key Employees (January) You can’t stop your employees from looking for other opportunities, but there are steps you can take to keep them from leaving. When employees are fully engaged with their companies and jobs, they’re more likely to slough off the day-to-day aggravations and keep their eye on the bigger picture.
Employee Recognition . . . Priceless (February) Keeping your employees continuously engaged might seem like a time-consuming, tedious process on the surface. There are many simple ways to address engagement, ways that take little time and effort, but reap numerous rewards and benefits in the long term. One of these ways is recognition.
10 Steps to a Successful Partnership with Your Recruiter (March) Have you ever wondered why one organization is more successful using recruiters than others? Companies who enjoy more success in this area utilize proven strategies, ones that center upon communication, accurate information, and timely follow-up.
Your Other ‘Succession Plan’ (April) Baby Boomers are signing up for Social Security benefits and beginning to retire. Succession plans are more important than ever. But do you have a succession plan in place for employees other than those in high-level leadership positions? If you don’t, you should. Here are some thoughts . . .
Let’s Be Clear—Retention Begins with the Interview (May) The “clearer” you are during the interview process, both over the phone and in person, the better your chances of keeping a new employee for a very long time. Retention is not just a buzzword these days; it’s a vital part of company growth and profitability.
Presenting the Complete Employment Offer (June) The basic employment offer has three components: start date, title, and compensation. The complete employment offer has at least 20 options, and if the candidate is relocating or is an executive, there are another 10. Presenting the entire opportunity is important in a competitive talent market.
Relocating the New Hire: A Family Affair (July) You’ve just made a great hire, but in the back of your mind, there’s some hesitation. Will your new hire be able to sell their house? Is the hire’s family really on board with the relocation and will they make a successful transition? Could you really lose this candidate?
Attracting Top Talent in Any Economy (August) Although new data suggests mixed economic signals, the need to find skilled candidates still exists. There are available people, but are they who you want? And when you find them, are you attracting that top talent to your company?
Retaining Your Human Investments (September) You’ve made a considerable investment in the interviewing, hiring, and on-boarding of your new star employee, and you go to great lengths to protect your assets. However, what are you doing to protect the emotional and intellectual assets you have, specifically those of your employees?
How Much Are Your Employees Worth? (October) Without a doubt, compensation is an integral part of the overall retention picture. With that in mind, do you know what your employees are worth? In other words, do you know how they should be compensated in comparison to industry standards and norms?
“Retaining Employees—the Easy Way” (November) Sometimes, people make things more difficult than they have to be. This is often the case in the world of business and employment, and it’s especially the case when it comes to retaining employees. However, you can prevent top employees from jumping ship with a few basic strategies.
